Bank House, Bakewell
This Grade II Listed former schoolhouse was in need of a little bit of tender loving care.
The gable end to the property needed repointing along with an overhaul to the chimney. This included removing and rebedding the chimney pots and flaunching them with a hydraulic lime mortar. The brickwork was repointed with a lime putty mix and the stonework was repointed, again with a hydraulic lime mix.
Several damaged stones were replaced along with a coping stone butting up to the chimney.
At the rear of the property the imposing stone mullion windows to the staircase of the property needed replacing. The stone had eroded badly, so badly infact that several of them crumbled away to nothing as they were removed.
All the stones, 12 in all, were replaced with new stone from the local Birchover quarry and were lightly sandblasted prior to installation to help give early weathering.
Other conservation works were completed throughout the property included the rebedding of the coping stones to the front parapet wall, further repointing works, the installation of cast iron air bricks and the restoration of the fireplace.
